The resolution of the captured image is decided by the pixel count and the higher is the resolution the higher the pixel count. 10 mega-pixels are the standard count used these days. However, as excessive pixels can create image noise, a larger pixel count does not always mean a better picture.

 

Other than this, one should also consider the size of the digital display and battery backup. If you are buying a shoot and point camera, the compactness of the camera would also matter.
